Course Review Series: Respiratory, Gastrointestinal, Endocrine/Reproductive

Well, we have a few courses to talk about. I’ve honestly been dreading writing this post, so I put it off as long as possible. Now that it’s the end of MS2, I figured I should go ahead and post. I was dreading writing these course reviews because I started getting bored with the series. My study habits haven’t changed much, so I don’t have much to say. I’ll just give a quick blurb about each course:

Respiratory:

I’ve seen that other schools do a combined cardiorespiratory course, and I wish my school did it that way. We had renal and derm in between the two. Cardio and respiratory complement each other well because they work together and the physiology of flow is similar. This course was only a month long, and it went by so fast!

Gastrointestinal:

I could probably sum this one up with the poop emoji (but I don’t know how to do that here). Who knew that differential for poop was so extensive? This course was not my favorite, but I did enjoy learning about nutrition. It served as a reminder that I should stop stress eating when school is rough.

Endocrine/Reproductive/Genitourinary:

This course was 6ish weeks long, and it had a lot packed into it! I enjoyed endocrine the most. I love learning pathways and feedback loops (#nerd). I did not enjoy repro and GU as much. Too many unsightly pictures.

This last semester of my pre-clinical years went by in a blur. Maybe it’s because I’m so settled into my study routine, or maybe it’s because time flies when you’re terrified of Step. Here are my tried-and-true resources:

  • Pathoma
  • Sketchy Micro/Pharm
  • BRS Physiology

Today is my last day of second year! I’m taking a practice NBME exam, and then I’m spending the rest of the day getting ready for Cadaver Ball (aka med school prom). And Step study starts Monday.

Have a great weekend!

  • Ever since I visited Venice a few years ago, I have loved glass sculptures. Last week we were able to visit the glass museum in Tacoma, and today we have a few hours before our flight out of Seattle so we checked out the Chihuly Garden and Glass museum. It was so beautiful! More in my stories.
  • We're leaving Victoria this evening, but I'm already planning our next trip! Victoria is a beautiful little city with the friendliest people. Here are some pics from high tea at the Fairmont Empress. I definitely felt like a princess!
  • We just spent most of our day exploring The Butchart Gardens! There were so many beautiful flowers, but these were my favorite. They're called "Fuschia".
  • We are having a blast exploring Victoria! Yesterday we strolled around downtown and bought all the souvenirs, and today we're having high tea at the Empress. I love seeing everyone's vacation pictures this time of year! Tell me where you're headed!
