First Med School Monday of 2018!

Med School:

  • – I didn’t write a lot about med school at the end of last semester because, well, not a lot was going on. I had 2 weeks of family medicine, 2 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks of ophthalmology, and then 2 weeks of vacation. I planned my schedule that way because I wanted an easier schedule during the holidays. That does mean though that this semester will be very busy!
  • – Last Wednesday I started my 8-week internal medicine clerkship, and I’m starting off with Nephrology wards. This team takes care of a lot of patients who are in end-stage renal disease on dialysis. I’m determined to nail down my understanding of fluid and electrolyte balances before I move on to my next sub-block.
  • – I applied and was chosen to be a medical student section voting delegate for the Louisiana State Medical Society House of Delegates later this month. I’ll be voting for/against policy positions that the LSMS will pursue this year!

  • – We took our Christmas decorations down this weekend, and the house feels so bare without it! But, it is Mardi Gras season now so I’ll at least have parades to look forward to!.
  • – My friend Courtney started a weight loss challenge for herself at the beginning of the year, and I liked the idea so much I’m trying it too. She and her husband have a whiteboard counting down the pounds to their individual goals, and at certain numbers, they get a reward! Courtney is saving her Christmas gift cards for her rewards, but I’m still trying to decide what mine will be. I’m thinking things like bath bombs or a new candle. We’ll see how this goes!
  • – My little brother is turning 17  tomorrow (!!!), and I can’t believe it. He’ll be graduating from high school the same year I graduate med school. Happy birth week, Josh!

  • I was finally back to seeing patients today after the holiday weekend was extended by TWO snow days. I was going a little crazy being cooped up inside! The clinic had faux marble counter tops, so of course I had to take a pic of my stethoscope on it. (oh, Instagram, you’re weird, but fun). #medschool #lifeloveandmedicine
